At the invitation of Various Others, Der Greif created a site-specific intervention for the first Unconference at Munich’s iconic Bayerischer Hof. The gathering brought together international voices in art to explore themes of inclusion, agency, and cultural power. Der Greif responded with a participatory installation rooted in photography and personal exchange.
"Bilder auf Reisen / Pictures on a Journey" transformed a traditional postcard rack into a curated platform for contemporary photography. Featuring works by 50+ emerging artists selected via a global open call, each image reflected on the themes of Strange Homeland and Encounters.
Poetic “textographies” by Angela Aux accompanied the images – creating unexpected visual-textual pairings inspired by the tradition of Mail Art. Visitors were invited to choose, write, and send a card, turning spectators into participants.
Positioned at the Unconference entrance, the installation offered a tactile counterpoint to institutional conversations. It encouraged reflection, connection, and storytelling – one postcard at a time.
For artists, it offered visibility and global circulation of their work. For participants, it created moments of meaning through image and message. For the event, it became a gentle catalyst for exchange.
By combining contemporary photography, poetic language, and interactive participation, the installation reimagined how art can foster connection – not through spectacle, but through gesture. It offered a quiet, powerful reminder: images don’t just hang – they travel, resonate, and relate.
